TRB Sent Its Editor to Get a Non-Intrusive Laser Procedure, Pop Stars Edition

By Shawal Ras

Ever wonder how those pop stars, like Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, and Selena Gomez, grew up in front of the limelight and with paparazzis following them around 24/7/365 and there’s no pimple or, good forbid, acne scars, whatsoever?

I mean, Taylor Swift went through her never-ending dramas (Katy? Kim? Kanye?) flawlessly for years with no breakout. Lucky bih.

Well, recently I visited the temple of many local celebrities and socialites, the Premier Clinic, in Bangsar, the home of several well-known aestheticians in Malaysia and had a taste of what it’s like to actually pamper my skin to look radiant a la celebrities on the night of their big red carpet gig.

*Cue endless camera flashes*

I gotta admit, my skin is filled with scars left by the many pimples I had when I was growing up (‘cos, hello! My school days are stressful and dramatic okay). So the color of my skin is pretty much uneven; you can’t see it, to be truly and blindfully honest, but as the most self-critical person in my family, I can see ‘em… clearly.

Undergoing this procedure was quite scary for me. I have a very active imagination so the moment I heard of “laser” my head straightaway think about burning skin and how it’s gonna hurt. Bad! The doctor reassures me that it’ll be painless (LOL, my anxious brain got the best of me).

Anyway, I tried a laser pigmentation session at the aforementioned clinic and came out feeling super refreshed. It doesn't hurt a bit and it felt like I have ants walking around on my face. There's a slight burn smell thanks to my facial hair, but overall it was a splendid 40-min session (including a short but necessary cooldown time).

Of course I can't get maximum result from one session but the difference is apparent. The aesthetician, Dr. Jaswine Chew, told me I need to wear sunblock and mosturiser from now on if I want to protect and nourish my skin. Further reading told me the short procedure increase collagen production and give a bit of radiance (it did!). It costs a bit steep at MYR900 per session (depending whether you're going for full face or just one part) but what is beauty without a little bit of sacrifice, eh?

Verdict: I do like the way I feel after the treatment so I am definitely gonna try it again someday soon. Maybe something to remove my acne for once?

Premier Clinic is a prestigious medical aesthetic centre in Malaysia and has been touted by the local media as one of the best in Malaysia. With six full time aesthetic doctors and a variety of treatments to tailor to every client's needs, the clinic is located in several key locations (Bangsar, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Puchong, and the newest addition to the family in Ampang) and it promises professional services and great results.
