Meaner, bolder, and savage-r version of Taylor Swift has arrived and she's (sorta) a badass.
'Look What You Made Me Do', the first single off the singer's forthcoming sixth studio album, Reputation, has been released and it's pretty much an alt electro-pop for us at TRB. It's not good nor bad, but it's definitely interesting.
The shifting single, which sampled Right Said Fred's 'I'm Too Sexy', is written by the singer with the help of Jack Antonoff and Fred Fairbress, and it features revenge-y lyrics, like "I got a list of names and yours is red underlined", and mid-song talking part where she says stuff like "I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now / Why? / Oh, 'cos she's dead!".
It's cringey and a bit childish, but OK lah. It's Taylor, what do you expect?
The lavish music video, on the hand, is a different thing. Directed by Joseph Kahn (of Tay's 'Blank Space', and Britney Spears' iconic 'Toxic'), the video sees the singer playing several dark characters and some of 'em bear the resemblance of her nemesis, Katy Perry. Not to mention several references to Perry's iconographies, such as the cat).
I kinda like it. But to be really honest, this (Taylor vs. everyone) is getting old and we're tired, but it makes good promotion for all parties.
