Single Review | Lana Del Rey - High by the Beach

Lana Del Rey
High by the Beach - Single
Polydor / Interscope
Release date: August 10, 2015

OK. To be honest, ‘Honeymoon’ is such a bummer tune to kick off a new era. It is tragic, yes, but too slow and not memorable at all (confession: I was totally bias in that review. My bad!). Today, Lana has released the second single off her upcoming LP and it is such a joy to see her coming back to her bad-ass root displayed in ‘Off to the Races’.

This track is not a pop track, I’m telling you. There’s a hint of trap, hip hop and electronic throughout the song, in sync with her slow cooing over this infectious line: “All I wanna do is get high by the beach, get high by the beach, get by baby, baby, bye bye.”

Ah yes, baby!

Obviously this is no ‘Off to the Races’ but I’m actually diggin' this tune. Definitely one of her few catchy songs.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
