Single Review | Sam Smith - I'm Not The Only One (feat. A$AP Rocky)

Sam Smith
I'm Not The Only One (feat. A$AP Rocky) - Single
Capitol
Release date: September 9, 2014

Just when we thought we can't be any more impressed with him, the English crooner teams up with the American rapper for a somewhat 'douchier' yet extrospective version of the hit single.

British singer-songwriter Sam Smith has always been a The Record Blog darling not only for his awe-inspiring vocal chops but also for crafting relatable tear-jerkers perfect for any dark rainy day. Now, he takes everything mellow to the next urban level by giving a straight edge, if you will, to the Chris Messina and Diana Aggron masterpiece.

As Sam's orientation is public knowledge by now, conjuring up an image of a man when listening to the song has kind of become inevitable. In an effort to balance it out perhaps, A$AP sings about being a man's man - of how he as a man has slept around before and the repercussions of his actions due to the 'overreaction' of the women by using some Beyoncé allegories.

Honestly we think this version of the song need not be out here at all. The original song was already perfect and we can't help but regret this unfortunate choice of rapper as well. Lyrics and message aside, however, we can't help but appreciate how well the two artists have collaborated albeit only piecing together the track via the internet without actually meeting.
