Music Video Review | alt-J - Hunger of the Pine

alt-J
Hunger of the Pine - Single
Infectious
Release date: June 19, 2014 (Single) / July 16, 2014 (Music Video)

The third instalment of the Hunger Games is just around the corner and here's the right video to put us in the mood.

'Hunger in the Pines' – as the name clearly suggests – takes its plot inspiration from Suzanne Collins' famous trilogy, complete with a man running for his life from the woods, gasoline, arrows and fiery arrows. Painful to watch, the man does not give up on the run even after being impaled by countless projectiles, only to douse himself with gasoline after reaching the middle of a clearing as lit arrows come barraging down.

alt-J is definitely an indie band that is not getting enough of the attention they deserve. Independent bands are always in a tricky position – either to stay indie and have a loyal but small following or go mainstream and risk being called a sell-out. However, whichever path alt-J choose to take, it is undeniable they make tasteful music. The best part of the track? Miley Cyrus! Yes the infamous twerker herself appears, repeating eerily: “I'm a female rebel”; taken from '4x4' in Bangerz. Miley currently is somewhat the one-liner equivalent of Nicki Minaj, appearing in many tracks albeit uncredited. Who could forget her lifting 'Hey's in Pharell's 'Come Get It Bae'?

Wonder which track Miley's gon be on next?

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
