Music Video Review | Melanie Martinez - Carousel

Melanie Martinez
Carousel - Single
Atlantic
Release date: May 19, 2014 (EP) / October 15, 2014 (Music Video)

Halloween is just around the corner and this year 'Freakshow' appears to be the theme.

Sweet yet sinister has always been the preference of quirky Melanie Martinez and the latest single 'Carousel' off of her EP Dollhouse is the perfect epitome of her aesthetics both sonically and lyrically. Meanwhile, the season four of American Horror Story just debuted recently with the subject of 'Freakshow' and its well-received trailer featured this song to the best effect of the show's theme. Keeping with the motif of the song and the TV show, the The Voice alum's trippy new music video also features the eccentric and the bizarre.

Set in a carnival run by dodgy characters, the video starts with Melanie appearing in an empty carnival, that quickly lights up and starts running. As she tries out the games and the rides, she meets a handsome young lad (played by the charming upcoming model Austin Scoggin) who is not up to no good after all.

If not for the music, the video is definitely a must-watch for future superstar Austin Scoggin!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars.
