Oh yeah! Elizabeth Grant (also known to the rest of the universe as Lana Del Rey) is back with a brand new full-length long play, Ultraviolence.
Del Rey's fixation with the upper echelon, constant bad taste in men and not-so-awesome love stories are all in this album. Her melancholic and bluesy style of singing pretty much taps into our miserable vein and yea, I do agree, hooking up with Dau Auerbach of the Black Keys for this album has added even more cinematic feel to it.
Plus, Del Rey sounds confident in her vocals, as well.
To tell ya the truth, there's nothing as good as 'Video Games' here, but writing wise, Ultraviolence feels sharper and much more stronger than her previous effort, Born to Die. Every chorus and melodies are beautifully formed, evoking that whole doomed epic romance she got going on since the very beginning of her career.
Some of my favorite tracks are 'Ultraviolence', 'Shades of Cool', 'Brooklyn Baby', 'West Coast', 'Sad Girl', and 'Black Beauty'.
But the eleventh track, 'The Other Woman', despite being engineered perfectly to fit the album, it is still a 'lil bit boring than the others.
Anyway, I'm not sure if most of you will love the album, but if you're a huge fan of Del Rey, you'll love this.
Ultraviolence available worldwide starting June 16th.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
