LP Review | Rihanna - Anti

Rihanna
Anti
Roc Nation / Westbury Road
Release date: January 28, 2016

By Shawal Ras

After a messy leakage ordeal with Tidal today (Beyoncé, we're looking at you!), Rihanna finally (and officially) dropped her highly anticipated eighth studio album, Anti

Somewhat dark in nature, the album shows a harder side of Rihanna we've been waiting for a long time: creative, stoned as fuck, and truly unapologetic.

This is the anti-thesis of Rihanna.

To be honest, I'm really on the fence about this album. On one hand, I think it's good to see Rihanna experimenting with her music. She's clearly trying out so many new stuffs and inspired with the whole experience (note: she co-wrote 12 out of 13 tracks). But on the other hand, it's not the kind of experiment I'd like to hear. Anti is so diverse in terms of genre, I'm not sure where to put this one.

Anyway. Considering how Anti is lacking in its singles department, this era will be an interesting chapter in Rih's life. Commercially, will this be a flop? Or a mega success for her? We'll see...

Standout tracks: 'Consideration (feat. SZE)', 'James Joint', 'Kiss It Better', and her obvious next hit, 'Love On the Brain'.

Horrible cut: 'Higher'

The album is currently streaming exclusively in Tidal and will be available in iTunes and everywhere as soon as possible. Side note from us: you might wanna listen to this album while you're high. 4/20 y'all.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
