Cheap Sunglasses (feat. Matthew Koma) - Single
Interscope / Cherrytree
Release date: April 10, 2014 (Album) / July 10, 2014 (Music Video)
Remix Artist Collective, or better known as RAC, released their latest single, 'Cheap Sunglasses', off their new album, Strangers.
The track, which features Matthew Koma as the lead vocalist, is highly addictive thanks to its catchy lyrics and simple melody.
The easy xylophone intro set the tone for this cool single and the words, especially the chorus, are pretty much a satire of today's materialistic culture:
“Your limousines get stuck in traffic / And we all know you’re made of plastic / You may seem like something classic / But you’re cheap sunglasses / You’re cheap sunglasses and I see right through you.”
But sonically, this song reminds me a lot of Owl City. By a lot, I mean at first I thought this is from Owl City (for real!).
Anyway. The video is pretty dope. It features RAC and Koma in a very plastic situation where they're singing in a party filled with and attended by fashion dolls (creep much?). There's not much going on around this video but you can understand the gist of this song roughly from the video itself.
Plus, checkout all of the sunglasses feature in this video. It is summer, of course it is the most important essential - EVER!
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
