Music Video Review | Zayn - Pillowtalk

Zayn
Pillowtalk - Single
RCA
Release date: January 29, 2016 (Single / Music Video)

By Shawal Ras

'Pillowtalk' is, first and foremost, a single worthy of making love to.

It's Friday night and Zayn Malik (who simply goes by Zayn nowadays) decides to release his debut single, a slow and sensual R&B jam that's gonna get you in the mood for some loving, repeatedly.

Or as I'd like to say it bluntly: It's f(bleep)ing HOT!

And y'know what makes this even hotter? The official music video.

The feature, directed by Bouha Kazmi, interpret the song beautifully. While Zayn is singing about two complete opposites ("slow and high-tempo / light and dark / hard and mellow / my enemy, my ally"), the video keeps on showing him and Gigi Hadid morphing into each other with multiple interloping shots on nude models with nothing but flowers and petals covering their private parts.

It's a visual poetry, to be honest.

Gone are the days of cheesy pop music released by One Direction. I'm officially looking forward to Zayn's whole solo career.

'Pillowtalk' is the first single off the British/Pakistani's forthcoming album, Mind of Mine, set to release on the anniversary of his departure from his former group (read: March 25th, 2016).

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
