Music Video Review | Maroon 5 - Sugar

Maroon 5
Sugar - Single
Interscope
Release date: January 13, 2015 (Single) / January 14, 2015 (Music Video)

Maroon 5 burst back into the scene as well-received wedding crashers in their latest video, 'Sugar'.

The video features Maroon 5 as themselves as they drive across town on the 6th of December last year crashing every wedding they possibly could. And what's 'special' about the whole thing is that none of the newlyweds nor their guests know about this special appearance, making the whole gate-crashing real and garnering an overwhelming shock from everyone.

Being the sceptic that I am, I completely do not believe that the video was not staged or at least planned beforehand. Here's why:
  1. Where are the cameras? At this day and age, even if a C-list celebrity shows up in the same Starbucks line as you, the first thing you whip out is your phone to snap a shot for your Instagram. And here we are to believe that none of the guests wanted to record THE Maroon 5 performing at their cousin's/friend's wedding?
  2. Why are the spoken responses of the guests so clearly audible? Obviously they have been fitted with microphones beforehand.
  3. And we are to believe miraculously each wedding hall has an empty space just enough for the band to perform in?
  4. Not to mention the planting of so many cameramen to get that many angles and how did they get everyone to dance immediately after the curtain drops?
Although to their benefit, the end scenes of everyone just having fun with the band is really gorgeous and heart-warming to watch. If they are real couples it has definitely been made a lot more memorable and we can't be happier for them.

p/s: Brownie points for the Asian couple. The groom tho. Damn.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
