Single Review | Clean Bandit - Rather Be (feat. Jess Glynne)

Clean Bandit
Rather Be (feat. Jess Glynne) – Single
Warner / Big Beat / Atlantic
Release date: January 17, 2014

They say it's better late than never and we can't agree more how it rings true to this long overdue review of the number one hit 'Rather Be', an infectious romantic number released back in January by Clean Bandit, the English electronic quartet with a corporeally-spotless-yet-morally-ambigious name.

The perfect combination of classical music with a dance music beat, 'Rather Be' is a classic example of the new kind of sound emanating from across the pond right now. The song begins with a violin intro crafted to capture your attention while the track leaves you feeling fresh and invigorated by the time it ends. Adding to the recipe for success are the lyrics – meaningful yet just as easy as the beat, allowing you to sing along to it in no time. 'Rather Be' is a masterpiece that has brought Clean Bandit to the forefront of 2014 electronic music after six years of existence, officially entering the fray with other great innovative British acts like Rudimental, Disclosure, Naughty Boy and Duke Dumont.

Jess Glynne, the feisty redhead who's somewhat the British lookalike of Lorde, provides soulful vocals perfect for a light tempo love song, convincing listeners that there's really no place she'd rather be than with us. Just as it is the case with Clean Bandit, Glynne is one of the many young female British singers to have emerged in recent years, joining the ranks of hit-makers such as Ella Eyre, A*M*E and the quirky Foxes. The singer-songwriter is currently on a number one streak as the subsequent single she was featured in – 'My Love' by Route 94 – also attained the top spot in the UK Singles Chart.

'Rather Be' is the fourth single out of Clean Bandit's debut album New Eyes, scheduled to be released sometime in May this year.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

[UPDATE] Clean Bandit's New Eyes is set to release on May 12, 2014.
