Music Video Review | Hoodie Allen - Movie

Hoodie Allen
Movie - Single
(Independent)
Release date: August 25, 2014 (Single / Music Video)

Hoodie Allen's new single, 'Movie' is not only catchy but also has an interesting music video perfect for any movie buff.

Hoodie Allen is an upcoming independent rapper who came to prominence few years back thanks to his hip-hop take on Marina and The Diamonds' 'I Am Not A Robot'. Since then he has released a couple of mixtapes and EPs, before finally releasing his first studio album called People Keep Talking. The second single off of the LP, 'Movie' is a sure hit in the radio albeit later, bringing to mind MKTO's 'Classic' which had an almost similar story.

The music flick pays homage to all the movie tropes associated with blockbusters of various eras across a wide range of genres. Not only does Hoodie make numerous pop culture references in his rap, the video itself cleverly captures the essence of the movie industry, making the mv truly a cinematic experience. His “leading lady beauty” is played by Instagram model Bryana Holly, who accompanies the rapper as they go from shot to shot re-enacting scenes from many cinematic classics such as horror film The Shining, quirky The Royal Tennenbaums, a black and white film noir featuring a detective and his femme fatale and of course an action-packed Michael Bay movie.

Hopefully Hoodie keeps up his efforts and breaks out big soon just like Macklemore and MKTO before him.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
