Genius du Jour, Lorde, has blessed us mortals with the soundtrack LP for the latest instalment of The Hunger Games series, Mockingjay, Pt. 1, in which she curated in secrecy over the past one year.

Packed with 14 tracks, this album features solid selection with the likes of Stromae, Tinashè, Major Lazer, CHVRCHES, XOV, and many more. One thing on my mind upon my first listen: Lorde got some serious future as a producer!

Some of my favourites from this album are 'Dead Air' by CHVRCHES, 'Scream My Name' by Tove Lo, 'Animal' by XOV, and the dystopian-esque track, 'This Is Not a Game' by The Chemical Brothers and Miguel (this one slays!).

But my ultimate favourite track would be by the curator herself, 'Yellow Flicker Beat', which, in my opinion, captures Katniss Everdeen's self conflict and deep dark soul. Kanye West also throws some heavy dark theme into the reworked version of the song, 'Flicker', which appears in the 11th track of the LP.

Lorde + Kanye West? A match made in music heaven (Sorry, Kim K)!

But what's a review without a negative comment from moi? I have a few not-so-good tracks that I think should never be in the album: 'Kingdom' by Charli XCX and 'All My Love' by Major Lazer and Ariana Grande. These two sounds boring and didn't fit into the album's theme of rebellion at all.

Truth be told, despite the awesome selection, this album doesn't carry the weight of the film itself. Where's the essence? I don't hear it. It is too eclectic, I'm finding it a 'lil bit hard to emphatically understand the hardship of living at the edge of a revolution.

Nevertheless, despite what I've commented above, the album still not too shabby. You can listen to it if you're in the mood for something other than those in the Top 40. My verdict: buy it, but don't expect it'll throw you into the claws of President Snow.

Oh yes, one more thing: why 'Hanging Tree' isn't in the album? Jennifer Lawrence got some sexy vocal biz!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.
