Today's big news: Ella Henderson tops the UK album chart with her debut LP, Chapter One. Another good news: the album as good as it should be!

The X Factor's alum released her album last week and have been receiving tonnes of applause from many music critics and us at The Record Blog are also in love with this one.

After developing her signature sound under Simon Cowell's wings (who signed her even though she was placed sixth in the reality show), Henderson released her first single 'Ghost' and it ended up shot right up to the top. We know it is no 'Bleeding Love' but still, it's a damn good single!

Chapter One is sonically a pop album, with anthemic tracks including her debut single. The oh-so-euphoric 'Glow' and vengeful spirit to her vain main in 'Mirror Man' are probably some of the best numbers in this record.

I mean, checkout this lyrics: "And so I thought / Your eyes were fixed on me / But now I know / Your self is all you wanna see."

Anyway, some of my picks for good pop tracks in this album are 'Rockets', 'Pieces' and my absolute favourite, 'Empire'. Plus, just to remind us where she came from, Ella closes off this record with the self-written song she sang in her audition for X Factor years ago, 'Missed', with better engineered sound, nonetheless.

Her recycled 60s vibe (you're so Duffy, Ella, except with catchier tunes) works pretty well for her. Despite suffering from the obvious weak ballads, Chapter One is a good first album and yea, we'll be chanting for Chapter Two real soon, missy.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
