Music Video Review | Gwen Stefani - Baby Don't Lie

Gwen Stefani
Baby Don't Lie - Single
Mad Love
Release date: October 20, 2014 (Single) / October 21, 2014 (Music Video)

Gwen Stefani's rushed-out new mv is a black, white, yellow and purple mess. And if you've had epilepsy in the past or fear having one in the future, you are warned to STEER CLEAR from this video.

Eager to cash in on her current appearance in The Voice, team Gwen have gone and done what is almost essential to make money in the music world these days – release music while you're still on TV every week. It is well-known that the hit reality show is not necessarily about the talent of the contestants but rather a vehicle for the judges themselves to boost their careers. Like Shakira and Christina Aguilera before her, Gwen is coming up with  new music before her time on the show ends.

Okay back to the video in question, what else is there to say? Although it starts promisingly with a cheeky throwback to Gwen's 'Cool' era, it then transpires into shots of her walking and walking to nowhere on a virtual yellow path. The song then breaks down to an out-of-place bridge that doesn't gel with the rest of the song but fortunately features Gwen with some dancers. The ending, when  Gwen from the intro comes back in colour this time, honestly was the best part of the whole video.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.
