Concert Review | Mariah Carey - The Elusive Chanteuse Show: Tour Live in Malaysia 2014

Mariah Carey
The Elusive Chanteuse Show: Tour Live in Malaysia 2014
Date: October 22, 2014
Venue: Stadium Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur

Heavy rain pouring onto Kuala Lumpur may dull the show a lil bit, but nothing kept us screaming and singing to hits after hits like Mariah Carey does.

Carey brought her latest tour to Malaysia this time around! The Elusive Chanteuse Show, in support of her fourteenth album Me. I Am Mariah: The Elusive Chanteuse, is Carey's second show here since 2004's Charmbracelet World Tour.

Kicking off at 9.15pm with 'Fantasy', Carey kept the show pretty simple and laidback. It's not hard to figure why she named the concert a "show" instead of a "tour" - with live band and small stage, I find the setting a little bit personal than her previous The Adventure of Mimi World Tour back in 05/06.

And what's the deal with the news of how she can't sing anymore? Mimi gave us plenty of her whistle-like signature we couldn't get enough of. Remember 'Emotions'? THAT went up pretty high and all of us can't stop screaming (Malaysians LOVE that, apparently)!

The world (I mean, MY world) stood still when Carey belted out our all-time favourite song, 'My All', as well as 'Heartbreaker', 'Honey', 'Touch My Body', 'Shake it Off', and 'Fly Like A Bird'.

Hmm, not that we care, but since this show is in support of her new album, she also sang five songs from it, '#Beautiful', 'Cry.', 'Supernatural', 'Meteorite' and 'Thirsty'.

And what's a Mariah show without her must-have tunes! First, she invited Trey Lorenz and sang Jackson 5's 'I'll Be There'. Then, she took us all the way back to 1993 with 'Hero' which got the rest of us crying like a baby (there's a heavy video tribute to our favourite heroes too: from Gandhi, to Princess Diana, Oprah, etc)!

Lastly, she closed the show with 'We Belong Together' and returned for an encore presentation of 'Always Be My Baby' and 'Butterfly (Reprise)'.

To be honest, I thought she'll be using the same song list from her previous stops in Japan and China. But no, ours is a little different and unf, I was expecting 'Obsessed' and 'The Roof' yknow.

Overall, it was a pretty rad show. Carey was an hour and fifteen minutes late and the fact that it was raining all night got most of her lambs bitching around endlessly (a change of venue could've been perfect!). But, management mishaps aside, Carey gave us a great show and we're not bored at all and we're hoping she'll return again for her next world tour.
