Music Video Review | Demi Lovato - Really Don't Care (feat. Cher Lloyd)

Demi Lovato
Really Don't Care (feat. Cher Lloyd) - Single
Hollywood
Release date: May 20, 2014 (Single) / June 26, 2014 (Music Video)

Summer is not just about celebrating youth and young love - it is about the breakups too.

Demi has just released the music video for her loved-by-all summer breakup anthem 'Really Don't Care' and what a celebration it is! Commemorating June as Pride Month and tapping into the song's YOLO message, the video was shot at the Los Angeles Pride Parade which happened earlier this month. Amidst colourful parade-goers and decorations, Demi sends a message that God loves everyone before belting out her hit single whilst standing on her own creepy-cheerful float. Many celebrities appear in the second half of the video, such as Perez Hilton, Kat Graham, Travis Barker, Wilmer Valderrama and Cher Lloyd – who is also featured on the song. The catchy song was made even catchier thanks to Cher's – how do you say – catchy hook. Unfortunately, it's too short! She's rightfully a singer herself and we wish she had a longer part.

Truth be told, the video could easily pass as her Glee alter ego Dani's music video for her own single after breaking up with Santana (calm down 'Dantana' shippers it's just an example). Dani has changed her image quite substantially since her previous album with side-shave and tip-dyed hair. Her outfits are also androgynous – probably in-occasion just for this video – but they're not a far cry from her image for Demi. It's undeniable she has gained back some of the weight she had lost before she became famous and it's time Demi owned up to it instead of wearing layer after layer of clothing in black. It was hot even to watch her performing under that summer heat among thousands of people in a jacket, shitload of accessories and skintight pants, not to mention she looked out of place in the middle of everyone else's colourful and breezy looks. Another eye sore in the video is the blurring of people's faces! We know it's impossible to get everyone's consent to appear on the video but couldn't help but slip in a small complaint about it here.

All in all, a great video by Demi to show support to her fans in the midst of all the anger and hate. Pride month may be ending but we must never stop being proud of ourselves.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars.
