LP Review | Ed Sheeran - x

Ed Sheeran
x
Asylum / Atlantic
Release date: June 20, 2014

By Shawal Ras

Taylor Swift's ultimate best friend (proven by their every-growing affection towards each other in social media's postings), Ed Sheeran, has returned with his new offering, x (take note: it's pronounced as "multiply" instead of an actual "X").

Truth be told, x is pretty much a stronger album than his debut, +. By incorporating new elements, fused some fun rap contents and a much more urban engineering to it, x is completely different, and this is why it managed to avoid being just another sophomore slump (it debuted at no.1, FYI).

Ignoring that horrible HORRIBLE Shrek-themed artwork, some tracks here easily went off as my favourites; 'Sing', 'One', 'Don't, 'I'm a Mess', 'Runaway, 'The Man' and 'Thinking Out Loud'.

This LP doesn't blew me away as some mainstream reviews suggested, but it definitely surpassed my expectation of how good this album was going to be. It's polished and kinda great to listen to, especially on that boring Sunday afternoon.

So, yea, I'll be looking forward to hearing more from Mr. Sheeran this year.

x is already available in major record stores worldwide.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
