Music Video Review | Meghan Trainor - No

Meghan Trainor
No - Single
Epic
Release date: March 4, 2016 (Single) / March 21, 2016 (Music Video)

Meghan Trainor's new era kicks off with a new look (red hair!) and a no-nonsense first single, 'No'. But, the music video is another story...
Fresh off her glorious win at this year's Grammy Awards, Trainor announced a new album (Thank You) and released 'No', a sassy mix of doo-wop/pop and R&B single about living life without men ("My name is no / My sign is no / My number is no.."). Her direction this time is clearly a departure from her previous Motown-heavy debut album, Title, and let's be honest, I kinda like this new sound.

But, the music video, like I said above, is a whole 'notha ordeal.

Trading in her poodle skirts and Stepford-esque look in favour for a ridiculous metallic trench coat, the music video for 'No' is the most awkward thing I've watched this year. Here, Ms. Trainor channelling her inner Britney Spears, not the hot 2016 one, but the one who can't even lift her damn legs (Femme Fatale Tour, anyone?).

To be honest, I love Trainor's funky garbs from her previous era, but this one seems forced and totally weird. Despite the feminist-ready new anthem, the video got her in the most ridiculous position and it doesn't look cool at all.

I wanna scream YASSSSS but this is a definite NO.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars.
