Music Video Review | Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj - Bang Bang

Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj
Bang Bang - Single
Lava / Republic
Release date: July 29, 2014 (Single) / August 24, 2014 (Music Video)

Bang bang! You're dead. Well, at least you will be by the time the video ends.

While slaying live on stage with their jaw-dropping, asphyxiation-inducing opening performance of the MTV Music Video Awards 2014, the thrilling trio of Jessie J, Ariana Grande and MC maven Nicki Minaj continued their carnage off-air by simultaneously releasing the highly-anticipated video for their summer anthem 'Bang Bang'. It took the strongest of souls and hardiest of bodies to survive that epic opening and sit through the entire show, only for HRH Beyoncé to take another strong swing at us; but for those who endured, the test did not end. We advise taking a few days of rest before watching the video, especially to those who might be at the verge of a myocardial infarction after all this awesomeness in one night but for those who think they can handle it, go right ahead.

PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Keeping to the single's urban sound, the Hannah Lux Davis masterpiece starts in downtown America on a scorching summer day before ending at night on top of a skyscraper. In the PSA for female empowerment / music video, the three divas are given three different sets perfect to their audio aesthetics to play with: Jessie in the grit of the streets with her dancers, Ariana in a neon-lit room with her girlfriends and Nicki in a sleek rooftop with her servants. The explosive visual then ends with all three girls uniting in the femcee's crib to complete the massacre.

Best outfit: Nicki's yellow pencil skirt with multicoloured crop top.

Worst outfit: Jessie's red and black see-through dress.

If you subsist through the slaughter and come back up to join me here, then kudos to you. We are survivors, us. Now, replay!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
