Justin Bieber is growing up and I'm loving it. To tell you the truth, I was never a fan of Bieber before, whether with his personality (then and now) or his music. But, with Journals, I found him as a more matured man instead of a boy singing to a bunch crazy and lunatic little girls known to the world as Beliebers.
Starting off as a side project, Bieber launched this series called Music Mondays, where he released 10 downloadable singles via iTunes from October 7 until December 9, 2013. Then, last night, he dropped another five tracks and put it all in an album called Journals.
Whether this is a complete LP or just a compilation, I have no idea, but despite the lack in structure and cohesiveness, I find the album likeable. It's a pretty neat album with slow R&B fused tracks that are kinda mellow and more adult-oriented than his previous efforts.
There are a lot of great songs here, among of my favorites are 'Heartbreaker', 'All That Matters', 'All Bad', 'Bad Day', 'Roller Coaster', 'One Life' and 'Swap It Out'. One track that stoods out among the rest is 'Roller Coaster' - it's a song that brings out that particular sexy sound that screams 80s (I'm positive here, take a listen to this song!).
Bieber is definitely trying to grow up with this LP but I do think he needs a few years break. Figure out what he should do next and stop jumping into another record. As great as this record is, it still needs a lot of improvement and a lot of polishing before it can be thrown into the public like this.
Bieber, word of advice: drop the bad-boy act, keep this sound style and stop whoring around in Instagram. Thank you!
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
