Exclusive | Daiyan Trisha

  By Shawal Ras

Two months ago I had a chance to watch local YouTube singer/songwriter Daiyan Trisha performed on stage as the opening act for a sensational pop group from the UK, Little Mix. With just a mic and a guitar player by her side, she completely wowed me and the screaming Mixers. I was smitten with her fresh personality and beautiful voice, so, naturally, I feel like I have to interview her for The Record Blog. Anyway, like a true spy, I did some Googling, got in touch with her publicist, few weeks later we had our online interview at midnight, and voila, a perfect ('cos I said so) profile article by yours truly. Read on...

THE RECORD BLOG: Hi Daiyan. First of all, how about a 1-0-1 on yourself?
DAIYAN TRISHA: Hi, I'm Daiyan Trisha and I'm the President of the Universe! [Laugh]. Nah, I'm just your average 22-year-old, currently studying for a degree in Business Admin, a singer-songwriter, I own a clothing line called Celeste and also blessed enough to be the face of a few brands. A true Bangi native, a second child from five siblings, and a December baby. And oh, my favourite number is two!

TRB: Wow, that's a pretty cool introduction. Compressed, but packed.
DT: Thank you!

TRB: I know you've been doing music for a very long time now. How would you describe your music, or y'know; "The sound of Daiyan Trisha"?
DT: It varies, depends on my mood. Since I write my own songs, it can be based on my own experiences. Lately, my music has not been as much lighthearted pop as before. I think I'm sounding more and more mature but in some way it still contains the same sense of youth.

TRB: You've released an album called Jalan a while back and a few singles since then. What's next?
DT: Actually, Jalan was a collaborative effort with a band called Society and I had so much pleasure working on it. As a solo artist, I've released few singles. 'Kau Tahu' was released back in March and I just released a new song called 'Stargazing' few weeks ago alongside a music video. I'll be following with a few more songs, both in Bahasa and English, towards the end of the year, so, I'll keep you guys posted.

TRB: What would your genre be?
DT: It's a little mellow for now, but I guess I'd say my genre to be something like Brit pop-ish.

TRB: That's cool. So, if you were given a chance to work with ONE renowned talent, local or international, who would it be and why?
DT: Always and forever, my choice would be Taylor Swift. Hashtag #Swiftie! One does not need an explanation. [Laugh].

TRB: I fell in love with you when you sang Tori Kelly's 'Hollow' before Little Mix took the stage. Twas EPIC! Will you do an official cover for your YouTube channel?
DT: Terima kasih! I actually did post a cover of me singing to'Hollow' while rehearsing for that particular performance. It's already up on YouTube!

TRB: What's your take on life?
DT: Oh God it's already 1.46am and I really do not wanna get all deep talking about life and stuffs. [Laugh]. But yea, I'd say; To make the best out of it. Keep up with the momentum. When you're always on the speed and making amazing things, that's how you know you're living to the fullest.

TRB: OK, last question so please bear with me; Any advice for those who are trying to break into the industry?
DT: You'll never know how close you are until you make it so don't you ever give up. There's always something in store for us, so do not rush yourself for the sake of popularity. Enjoy the journey and if you do it genuinely and out of good will, trust me, you'll make it someday. Also, be kind to people, put your parents first, don't forget your prayers, and always make the people around you happy.

TRB: So that's it, thank you for spending a bit of your time for us.
DT: No problem.

As a musician rose from social media, Daiyan Trisha keeps a very busy timeline (aside from her education, of course!). You can follow her on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, or you can subscribe to her YouTube channel in which she posted a lot of cool covers and new songs. I mean, checkout this video below...
