Ariana Grande returns to the spotlight after that whole #donutgate ordeal with a brand new single, ‘Focus’.

The track, the first off her upcoming third studio album Moonlight, is a horn-infused bop mixed together with some retro-esque feel to it. And FYI, Jamie Foxx (uncredited) is the voice behind the chorus! Despite the negative comments by music reviewers, I kinda like the single. It’s funky, catchy, and I can dance to it. Although I have to admit, ‘Focus’ sounds a lot like ‘Problem’ and if she keeps on churning out the same old formula, she’ll lose her fans.

On the other hand, the music video sucks. It is shot by Hannah Lux Davis and was released the day before the official single hit the chart. There’s not much going on in this visual and again, it’s all too similar with ‘Problem’. I wish she was in a club or somewhere that is not a set for Samsung’s new phone ad.

And one question; why is she looking like a 12-year-old here? SMH.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars.
