Concert Review | Yuna - Live in Malaysia 2015

Yuna
Live in Malaysia 2015
Date: October 16, 2015
Venue: Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur

By Shawal Ras

Serenading 3,000 fans from her native country, Yuna's first sold-out show in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is an affair worth remembering.

Decked from head to toe in a glittering number by Hatta Dolmat, Yuna mesmerised her fans from the get-go, with 18 songs spanning over two hours.

Kicking it all off with her breakout single, 'Dan Sebenarnya', Yuna listed a lot of fan favs in her setlist for the show, among 'em are; 'Falling', 'Mountains', 'Lights and Camera', 'Material', 'Lullabies', feminist anthem 'Rescue', 'Live Your Life', and 'Decorate', which got a lot of her fans to sing-along and illuminate the hall with the lights from their phones. It was a beautiful moment, to be honest.

Other than her English songs, Yuna also sang some of her famous Malay songs; 'Terukir di Bintang', 'Lelaki', 'Penakut', and also 'Lautan', a cut from last year's Legenda Budak Setan 3

But the highlights of the night are 'Come Back' and her encore performance, 'I Wanna Go', which literally got everyone to stand up, scream from the top of their lungs, dance and clap-along to those catchy numbers. It was an EPIC ending to a great show!

In addition to those tracks, the vocalist also debuted the first single off her forthcoming third international album, 'All I Do'. The track, co-penned with the great David Foster (of Toni Braxton's 'Un-Break My Heart', and Celine Dion's 'Because You Loved Me', FYI), is a pop ballad fused with an indie touch and was welcomed with a thunderous reception from the crowd.

Yuna is indeed a talented singer. With her stage presence and command, you can definitely understand why she has gone international while others can't. I really wish she sang 'Let Love Come Through' from her Sixth Street EP or do a cover of Florence + the Machine - but, oh well, one can only hope.

Overall, it was a surreal spectacle from Yuna and I really hope I can see her again in the future, hopefully, in a stadium with 11,000 fans.
