Music Video Review | Lana Del Rey - High by the Beach

Lana Del Rey

Release date: August 10, 2015 (Single) / August 13, 2015 (Music Video)

Lana Del Rey has released the visual for ‘High by the Beach’ and it is sooooo late 60’s with a hint of sci-fi saga.

To be honest, this video, directed by the uber-famous Jake Nava, is pretty casual. It is shot in just a few takes (some are wobbly), primarily on distress-looking Lana walking through her empty Malibu house in pastel colored nightgown. Y’know, like a bored but fabulous housewife.

Anyway, her agitation becomes clear towards the end as we found out there’s actually a paparazzi in the helicopter that were roaming around the house, following her every move.

Lana flips (I think, I can’t read her face that well), runs down to the beach to grab a guitar case from her bunker and in it, there’s actually a hidden badass gun that might be borrowed from a sci-fi film, and she shoots the villain.

Cinematic ultraviolence, indeed!

‘High by the Beach’ is the second single off Lana’s forthcoming LP, Honeymoon.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
