EP Review | MKTO - Bad Girls

MKTO
Bad Girls - EP
Columbia
Release date: July 24, 2015

Former Nickelodeon stars from Gigantic, MKTO, returns with a much edgier sound for their new extended play, Bad Girls.

The duo, made of Malcolm Kelley and Tony Oller (MKTO - get it?), has left their teen pop days and came back swinging with four new retro-leaning tracks for this record.

The EP kicks off with the horn-filled ‘Bad Girls’ , which also serves as the record’s first single. Followed by ‘Afraid of the Dark’, ‘Monaco’, and closes with the anthemic ‘Just Imagine It’.

But.

To be honest, I have a hard time loving this album. It is enjoyable, yes, but it isn’t as cohesive as any EP should be. I believe it’d be better if there were some sort of one underlying sonic that ties all of these tracks together.

In another word: this EP is choppy.

Anyway, like I said before, Bad Girls is still an enjoyable mix. The first three tracks will definitely be in my new playlist.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.
