Single Review | Echosmith - Cool Kids

Echosmith
Cool Kids - Single
Warner Bros.
Release date: October 8, 2013

As it is sometimes the case, Malaysian radios tend to randomly heavily-play a track from yesteryear – and this time it's Echosmith's head-meets-keyboard number, 'Cool Kids'.

Have you ever experienced one of those moments when you're trapped in traffic, having nothing else to focus on but the radio (besides the road of course) and the RJ plays a catchy tune that you start moving to, and you start listening in only to be left cringing at the unfortunate lyrics? Well, in case you haven't guessed still, 'Cool Kids' is one of them.

The song undeniably has a catchy tune, leading to its success in both the Billboard Hot 100 and radio stations around the world. But honestly, the song drives me nuts. Especially the dumb chorus  (“I wish that I could be like the cool kids/Because all the cool kids seem to fit in”) that repeats itself again and again up until the outro. A quick check on Wikipedia reveals that freaking six people wrote this song. What the hell people? Sara Bareilles' first mainstream mega-hit single 'Love Song' was written by only ONE person: her! And you could'nt have been a tad bit more creative?

The rampage shall continue...(if hear another good song with dumb lyrics)...

Rating: 1.5 out of 5 stars.
