Beyoncé
BEYONCÉ
Columbia Records
Release date: December 13, 2013
Queen Bey dropped the biggest news of the day by releasing her fifth album, titled BEYONCÉ, without prior promo or notice whatsoever. Shocking? Yes, indeed! This is probably the most well-kept secret of 2013 and left the global bees (read: fans) with heart attacks.
BEYONCÉ filled with 14 audio tracks and 17 (yes, I said it - seventeen) music videos that'll make you hyperventilating over the next two hours - assured! Even though the physical copy of the album is not available yet (December 20, 2013 – in case you’re asking), but y'all can purchase them via iTunes as of now.
But, is the shocking factor and major hoohah worth it?
In my opinion, the album is not explosive as I thought it should
be. I'm expecting something ala Dangerously in Love or B*Day, but this one
falls flat on my face. Most of the songs in this record are too edgy, hard and
focuses on the kind of music that most radios won't play.
Major themes surrounding this album are female confidence
and sexuality. Songs like ‘Flawless’ and ‘Superpower’ are awesomely good and
got that anthemic feel to its lyrics, and while she got all that going on,
Beyoncé also dropped the second act to her ‘Crazy in Love’ with a new track called
‘Drunk in Love’. But, honestly, why 'Grown Woman' removed from the final cut? I
love that song, all thanks to that sexy Pepsi commercial (that strut moment is
legendary!).
Anyway, the album focuses Bey's two greatest assets: her
voice and the smouldering hot body. While all of the tracks showcase Beyoncé's
high voltage vocal, but the music videos are showcasing her alluring looks and her
massive bee-hind and we get it, you’re hot and no one's tired of it. With
videos for each and every songs, this is one helluva project that will knocks
off Katy’s, Gaga’s or Miley’s shoes!
BEYONCÉ is indeed the best surprise of the fall music
season. Even though it is not as impressive as it should be, I'm gladly giving
Bey a huge high-five 'cos no one can do a production more elaborate as this
than the Queen Bey herself.
Long live Beyoncé!
Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars.
