LP Review | Rachel Platten - Wildfire

Rachel Platten
Wildfire
Columbia
Release date: January 1, 2016

At 34, Rachel Platten finally got a huge hit with 'Fight Song' and this album, Wildfire, despite it being "too uplifting" (according to some critics), it is still a damn good repetition of that whole formula. And to be honest, IDGAF. It's dope!

Packed with twelve inspirational songs, it is easy to see why every single critic I read bashed this album. Her personality got lost in the middle of everything and you're not sure where is she standing throughout the 41-minutes LP.

But. Being her first major album release. Does she really need to be all deep and artsy?

Truth be told: there's no need. In my opinion, this album is all about sparking that wild and untamed fire within you and that's why it sounds liddat. It is cheesy but emotive. In a good way, obvi.

Personal challenge: play this CD during a road trip, I'm sure you'll kill the shit outta it. #CarpoolKaraoke

My choice for standout track: 'Congratulations'. This beats-heavy track is probably the only personal song in the LP. It's about a broken relationship caused by the other person: "You think you’re innocent / Pure gold and heaven sent / But, my tears are instruments / They sound like consequences."

Other than that and 'Fight Song', you can try 'Hey Hey Hallelujah (feat. Andy Grammer)', 'Stand By You', 'Speechless', and 'Lone Ranger'.

Wildfire is now available for purchase and stream.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
