Music Video Review | Jennifer Hudson - I Still Love You

Jennifer Hudson
I Still Love You - Single
RCA
Release date: June 4, 2015 (Music Video)

21st century diva and long-time supporter of LGBT rights has released an emvee celebrating love and happiness to commemorate the Pride Month of June.

The latest single off of her new album JHUD, 'I Still Love You' is the embodiment of the word fabulous – terrific disco beats, accessible lyrics, powerhouse vocals and of course a little bit of camp thrown in for flavour. The best of the single tho is the video which brings down barriers in more ways than one.

In a gist the music video tells the story of a white war veteran who has a hard time accepting his son's sexuality and is unable to accept his interracial wedding to another man. This of course being an emvee celebrating love and celebrity, the dad comes around in the eleventh hour and drives a long way to the ceremony, making it just in time as the grooms say their I dos. It all ends with merriment as guests, family and friends dance it out on the floor with some vogue moves a la one of JHud's previous video.

My favourite parts of the video have to be when the grooms boogie it down to the song on their bed while getting ready. The video also shows that war veterans are capable of love and not that stubborn after all, as well black parents' capability to accept their children's homosexuality contrary to stereotypes. The video concludes with Jennifer Hudson entertaining the crowd which includes cameos by RuPaul's Drag Race alumnus Manila Luzon, L Word star Leisha Hailey, and unique models Shaun Ross and Claudia Charriez.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
