The Grammy is almost here and it is time to review another nominee of my choice, this time it's going to be Sara Bareilles' The Blessed Unrest. The album is currently nominated in two major categories: Album of the Year (oh Lord, she's up with the biggest albums of 2013 - may the odds be ever in your favour, Sara) and Best Pop Solo Performance for 'Brave' (note: she's competing with Katy Perry's 'Roar' in this category. FYI, 'Roar' is basically a ripped-off from 'Brave' - listen to them both closely, people).
The Blessed Unrest is Bareilles' fourth full-length LP and I am in love with it! The album is filled with songs that are relatable to most of us. I have few favorites from this album, the first one would be 'Chasing the Sun' which is about starting a new life somewhere alien and it is basically an anthem of pursuing hopes and dreams while experiencing new beginning - beautiful songwriting, indeed! 'I Choose You' is also another standout as it may be the best wedding song ever (pardon my excitement, fellas). '1000 Times' is another sad number in this album which is written about the pain of unrequited love (oh the agony - we're all too familiar with it!). Other than those three, other tracks that are worth to be played over and over are 'December', 'Satellite Call', 'Manhanttan', 'Islands' and of course, 'Brave'.
Overall, I have to say, The Blessed Unrest is a beautifully engineered life soundtrack. Bareilles once again proved us that she is not just another plain 'ol singer-songwriter. It may not be a commercial success, but I hope it'll get some credit at the Grammy soon.
FYI, Bareilles is expected to perform at the event on January 26, 2014. Can't wait!
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
