I was first introduced to The Pussycat Dolls back in 2004 when they performed at the now-defunct MTV Asia Awards (or is it 2003? I have no idea!). Back then, there was about twelve or more ladies in the group and they strut pretty sexy for the love-themed event. Anyway, a year later, they returned with a single called 'Don't Cha' and it was pretty rad to see a group of girls chanting or screaming "don't cha wish your girlfriend is hot like me?" (YES indeed!). Critics are raving them as the next Destiny's Child, albeit more sexier (and thinner, sorry Beyonce).
PCD was released in September '05 and louded as a major debut album from the Dolls. It spawned six hit singles and a giant revolution in a world where it's kinda hard for an all-female group to find success (Spice Girls was already an old story back then). I love the album, but still, production wise, it could've been better. Sure, there are a lot of catchy tracks but the whole thing is kinda heavy on one side and lighter on the other: the first half is filled with up-tempo tracks while the second half is a bunch of covers. Nonetheless, who cares about that when most of the songs here are crafted for that definite sing-a-long session(s) while you're bored in the office, right?
Standout tracks: 'Don't Cha', 'Buttons', 'Beep', 'Stickwitchu', and 'I Don't Need A Man'. Trash track: 'Wait a Minute'. Loss: their first single, 'Sway', should've been in this album!
Overall, I would urge you to buy PCD. Despite the album's many misses in its production, you'll still have this CD spinning in the next five or ten years. Seriously, listening to 'Buttons' while walking down the road will makes you feel like a million buck!
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
