LP Review | Britney Spears - Britney Jean

Yesterday morning, Britney Spears provided free-streaming of her new upcoming LP, Britney Jean, via iTunes. This is her 8th studio album following Femme Fatale. According to her, this is her most personal album to date (and for once, I didn’t buy it – at all!).

Throughout the 40 minutes play, I noticed EDM is the major sonic background of the album. Most of the songs are created with heavy rave-ready tune and packed with catchy verses to make them radio friendly.

My most favourite track from the album is the first song, ‘Alien’. The song is very electronica and it got some dream-like tune to it. It sounds so sexy and a reminiscent of her fourth album, In The Zone. I’d love to see Britney use this song as a possible single (third, perhaps?). Other than this track (and ‘Work Bitch’), I think the others are good but not so much memorable. The album got too many EDM tracks which are causing headache at a certain time in a day.

Anyway, is this her most personal record yet? I don’t think so. But Britney Jean is one good pop record. For once I would love to see Britney tap into her new-wave sound like what she did in In The Zone or club-banging Blackout (still her most underrated record yet!).

Improvement tips? Well, Britney, why don’t you make a rock record? After seeing you belted out Alanis Morissette’s ‘You Oughta Know’ during the Circus World Tour, I do think you should do a rock-like angst record. And THAT would be one helluva personal record.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.
