The Anthem Gen Y Has Been Waiting For

Katelyn Tarver
Weekend Millionaires - Single
Duly Noted Release date: July 28, 2016 (Single) / July 29, 2016 (Music Video)

By Vimal Esvaren

It has been some time since I have been able to connect so deeply with a song’s lyrics and find it catchy at the same time.

Let’s start with the basics – the budding singer Katelyn Tarver arrives on set and immediately takes the mic, as the camera records her performance from the beginning until the end under moody pink-purple lighting.

The real star of the latest single by The Secret Life of the American Teenager alumnus, however, is definitely the message behind it. Profound lyrics such as “Credit card shoes” and “Just tryna be cool/ Yeah one day we’ll be there,” are sure to resonate among the young adult crowd, who mostly work for the present and not the future. I can attest that “And we’re ten blocks from H&M, We turn in five of them” can’t be truer than ever in my case, when more often than not I have found myself returning what I bought from H&M for refunds...

After all we’re just weekend millionaires for the sake of Instagram. #FTSOIG
