LP Review | New Politics - A Bad Girl in Harlem

New Politics
A Bad Girl in Harlem
RCA Records
Release date: May 21, 2013

I discovered New Politics back in mid 2013 when their single, 'Harlem', is playing all over the city (RapidKL's in-bus television is definitely playing this track every 20 minutes or so - after a while, it's kinda annoying). Apparently, this Copenhagen-based band has released their second album, A Bad Girl in Harlem, in May and I do think it's a good indie punk record. It isn't a knockout like Arctic Monkeys' AM but still, it's a decent album that is filled with straightforward and catchy choruses. Let me tell you this: this album keeps me listening without the need to press the "next" button.

Thoroughly, this album is lack in direction. There's no story behind the whole record and if they have one, it would be much more interesting. But still, who cares if you got great tracks after tracks and I'd love to play it out during a small gathering among friends (read: huge monster college party). Favorite songs: 'Harlem' (obviously!), 'Berlin', 'Stuck On You', 'Overcome' and 'Fall Into These Arms'.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
