'Perfect Illusion' is a Missed Opportunity to Introduce Raw Gaga

Lady Gaga

Interscope
Release date: September 9, 2016

The highly anticipated collaboration between Lady Gaga, Kevin Parker, Mark Ronson, and BloodPop has arrived, the Internet roars with endless rave, and I'm in between about it.

'Perfect Illusion', the first single off Gaga's yet-to-be-titled fifth record, is about mistaking the rush of a crush as something deeper: "It wasn't love / It was a perfect illusion / Mistaken for love / It wasn't love / It was a perfect illusion," she screams over the chorus.

I know. Ironic.

The 80's rock vibe is all over this single. I gotta say I love the guitar works but there are so many unnecessary vocal layers, it is kinda hard to like the song. Truth be told; song like this should've been made raw and organic than processed. A missed opportunity to introduce the world to a fresher, unplugged version of Stefani Joanne Germanotta.

Maybe that's the downside of having too much producers in one track.

But. I do believe this song is a grower. We're talking about L-A-D-Y-G-A-G-A, one of today's most prolific musicians so I'm sure it'll grow on me if she were to release an acoustic version.

Listen to 'Perfect Illusion' below.
