One of my favouritest band ever – who somehow have not had the opportunity to come by Malaysian shores yet (#dontmakemewaityearsandyearsguys) – have released the updated version of their hit single 'Desire' from their debut album Communion with the current queen of drugs and sex Tove Lo.

If you thought the first 'Desire' was somewhat sexual (for a Years and Years video that is), brace yourselves for the full flesh fiesta of Desire 2.0. A video crafted to celebrate the wide spectrum of the human sexuality, the emvee features characters with various gender and sexual properties immersed in sensuous lovemaking. The Swedish hitmaker does not make an appearance on the video, but Olly Alexander, the frontperson (see what we did there?) for the British synth-pop trio takes full advantage of her absence to let loose.

This video marks an important step in the growth of Y&Y and Olly as an artist, in the same way that 'Good For You' did for Selena Gomez and 'Cool For The Summer' for Demi Lovato. By embracing their sexuality in their music when they are ready and comfortable, and not because of force by the record company, these artists are able to express themselves better and their messages clearer. They may have started out without addressing their sexuality in their songs by focusing on other still-just-as-valid themes but at some point artists need to let their creativity take them where it wants to. Olly has been very vocal about his sexuality as of recent – since his public breakup with Clean Bandit's Neil Amin-Smith – and this video feels like just a teaser of a more sexually-liberated Olly and Y&Y to come. Exciting!

P/s: Olly & Neil 4ever.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
