Demi continues her vengeful music-chart takeover with a new femme fatale-inspired emvee.

Starring go-to bad girl Michelle Rodriguez, the video showcases Demi as a locked-up assassin contracted by an aged psycho in power whose hobby is to pit women against each other. Originally hired to get rid of Michelle's character, Demi soon learns that it was actually a trap to be rid of her. Maybe she knew too much or the psychopath just had too much time and money on his hands, we don't know. However, while battling it out, both of the mercenaries come to realise that they are nothing but a pair of pawn in a complicated chess game. So naturally they team up and take him down before riding off into their own separate ways.

Coming right in the heels of Taylor Swift's star-studded 'Bad Blood', it may seem like the video is inspired by the previous female power event, and one may be right, but 'Confident' takes it one step further by actually showing real fight scenes. Furthermore, unlike TayTay's masterpiece, Demi's vid focuses on how external elements, especially media, tend to take pleasure from pitting confident women against each other, a fallacy even our own Shawal Ras has unintentionally committed in the past. It also shows what women can achieve when they band together in achieving a common goal.

My favourite part from the music video has to be Demi not being able to defeat Michelle Rodriguez no matter how many punches she threw. She really did know her place.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars.
