Music Video Review | Todrick Hall - Low

Todrick Hall

Entertainer extraordinaire and camp guru Todrick Hall releases an original single and its accompanying emvee for a Wizard of Oz-inspired number a.k.a. my current jam!

As all Toddlerz know very well, the viral video veteran is a big fan of Oz and has on many occasions created videos inspired by the queer classic. However, 'Low' takes the cake for being the video to top it all of, with not only a catchy beat but also genius lyrics and captivating visuals. As an active participant of the performing arts scene, the semi-finalist of the ninth season of American Idol had always had the backing of its other members – especially dancers and actors – and it is very much evident here as it was in one of his previous productions, the wonderfully witty gay anthem 'Beauty and The Beat Boots'.

A dance number through and through, the video begins with a dance sequence and ends with a dance sequence. Various close friends of Todrick play the Oz-inspired characters in the video, including a sexy Dorothy, a flamboyant Scarecrow, a Tinman with buns of steel and a twerking Lion. Todrick himself plays both The Good Witch and The Wicked Witch, with expressions to kill. All in all, the video is a riot and the song is an earworm.

My favourite lyric in the song:

“Turn up, I'm the wizard I pronounce you to / Like somebody dropped a motherf- house on you”
