 Fox is bringing back Dynasty-eque feistiness to the TV world with its latest sensation, Empire.

The series, a musical drama, features twist-and-turn plot-lines with a lot of oh-my-god-what-the-fuck-just-happened moments, and with tracks produced by Timbaland (plus, awesome musical appearances from the likes of Mary J. Blige, Estelle, Jennifer Hudson, and Courtney Love), this show is set to return next year with a big explosive bang.

I’m just done watching the whole first season this morning (at 6.00 am, mind you) and to be honest, it is impossible to not be addicted to the songs featured in it. The official soundtrack album takes you back to the 90’s where the hip-hip was well alive and dominating our charts, local and international.

This soundtrack is pretty much threw me back to the heydays of Missy Elliot, The Notorious B.I.G. and many more. And I kinda like it. 

Tracks like ‘Good Enough’, ‘No Apologies’, ‘Keep Your Money’, ‘What is Love’, ‘Conqueror’ and ‘Whatever Makes You Happy’ are some of the best tracks in this album, and they blend pretty well unlike those albums churned out by the Glee actors (sorry, peeps).

But. Tracks like ‘Drip Drop’ and ‘Money for Nothing’ are just not strong enough. The chorus lyrics for the latter is kinda ridiculous though (“We got to install microwave ovens, custom kitchen deliveries, we got to move these refrigerators, we got to move these colour TVs” - I mean, that’s kinda stupid yo).

Anyway, jump in the Empire bandwagon and let’s have a chat ‘bout Cookie’s next plan to put Lucious Lyon to the ground.

    I like the show but I love the music... that 00s r&b groove is finally working again for Timbaland! Hahaha I agree that such tracks as Drip Drop aren't very intelectual but I don't think they were meant to be, for me they are great fun break from masterpiece tracks with heavy content. So all in all I love the whole thing, but I think they should start releasing them as singles and putting out some crazy videos... At least Jussie Smollett's songs, cuz he's damn talented and hot! :))
