Music Video Review | Ashley Roberts - Woman Up

Ashley Roberts
Woman Up - Single
Metropolis London
Release date: August 22, 2014 (Single) / July 14, 2014 (Music Video)

The domination of Dolls on The Record Blog continues with another fast number that is both radio-friendly and inspirational, although dated in music time, by former Angel Doll Ashley Roberts.

Reminiscent of PCD's anthem for single ladies, 'I Don't Need A Man', the second single from Ashley's debut album Butterfly Effect summons all the women to be proactive and take control of their lives. Equally catchy just like the PCD hit, 'Woman Up' boasts a catchy chorus that effortlessly rouses you to sing along to the easy lyrics.

As an ex-member of a burlesque girl group in an up-tempo song, it would have been outright blasphemous for the blonde beauty to not dance in the video and fortunately she is very aware of this. Appearing in three different outfits for three different sets (the pink one piece with a black net jacket on the neon-lit set is a favourite), Ashley dances it out with her girlfriends. And speaking of BGFFs, former bandmate and current television personality Kimberly Wyatt (who's presently expecting her first child with British supermodel Max Rogers) appears on set to support her chica, albeit not dancing along (to our disappointment). However, it still warms the heart to know their friendship has endured past all the hardships that the group has been through over the decade.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.
