LP Review | One Direction - Midnight Memories

One Direction
Midnight Memories
Syco / Columbia
Release date: November 25, 2013

One Direction released their third record, Midnight Memories, last week and I decided to give it a spin!

The first track that kicks off the album, 'Best Song Ever', is probably the best song in the album apart from 'Story of My Life'. Apart from those two, the title track, 'Midnight Memories', is kind of a full-blown pop/rock fest and I'm digging it (another cool track is the closing number, 'Better Than Words').

True to the fact that most of the songs here are not memorable but I do find the album as catchy as it should be. I know, some people are expecting bubblegum pop from them but let me assure you this: maturity does give 'em the edge they needed all these years. The boys (or should I address them as 'men'?) sounds good in this album. There's no pitchy vocals, the lyrics are not centred on the typical dreamy teen love, and yea, their sonic sounds are progressing from their previous two records (‘What Makes You Beautiful’, anyone?).

Well, that's all I gotta say about this album. If you're asking me if you should buy this album, then I think you should (well, unless if you're a 30 year old man... then don't). You won't LOVE it, but I bet you'll enjoy it like most of youngsters should.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars.
